Subtask 2: Technical Concept of Central Fast-Charging Stations
Based on the most appropriate design which has been developed in subtask 1 of WP4, this subtask will develop a prototype of a fast-charging station for EV’s as part of the Project.
It will be tested at Risø DTU in close coordination with WP6a where selected batteries will simulate the existing of individual EV’s.
There are two main objectives of the fast-charging station tests:
1) Evaluate the actual design with respect to robustness, functionality, performance and controllability (proof of concept, including bi-directional power flow)
2) Estimate the charging pattern and charging time’s impact on the battery performance and lifetime (input to charging control strategies).
Tests have to address a ‘fast-charging concept’, e.g. charging 50-80% of rated battery capacity in 5-15 minutes. Investigations of multiple charging scenarios have to occur.
An explosion safe charging place for fast-charging will be established at Risø DTU. The fast-charging station will be connected to the power system via 3-phase power connector and the optimal voltage level, e.g. 0.4kV, 0.7kV or 10kV has to be decided in the project. The communication (wireless or wired) to the power system simulator controller has to be established via SYSlab.
The power connection between the fast-charging station and the EV (represented by batteries according to WP1.1) will be developed as part of the Project in close cooperation with WP5. Batteries will be discharged (using SYSlab) by a load pattern, simulating typical driving pattern provide by subtask 6 of WP4.
