Video: Smarter Energy

Movie picture2. december 2009  by Anders Quitzau - IBM Denmark

In the next few days, world leaders will meet in Copenhagen to discuss the challenge of climate change and ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In Denmark, 20% of the country's power needs are already met by wind energy. In one of the globe's most energy efficient countries, the aim is to take this up another notch.

On the small Danish island of Bornholm, a consortium of government, industry and research organisations are working on an innovative project to use wind power to charge electric vehicles.

The goal is to use a small pilot of about 15 electric vehicles to develop a model for as many as 200,000 wind-powered electric vehicles in Denmark by 2020.  The project, code-named EDISON, will enable consumers to store energy from wind in their car batteries and even sell energy from their cars back to the power companies when the demand for energy peaks.
